PRESS RELEASE - 20th March 2003
Election Week Raids In Nimbin As Usual
Drug squad plain clothes police have stirred up Nimbin in the last few
days before the election. Their arrival yesterday also coincided with a
visit from the Ombudsman. (Actually they were women, and they didn't
have any buds!)
"The paranoia levels treble or more, which makes them considerable" said
Michael Balderstone from the Nimbin HEMP Embassy, "every tourist here
now is a suspect undercover. A lot of black sheep live on this farm and
pot is their genuine medicine. They should be left alone; it's in
everyone's interest."
"Last night half the town was drunk and angry and today it's a stirred
hornet's nest. Nimbin is an ideal community to trial some sort of
compassionate cannabis use. The ongoing War on Drugs here has become
ludicrous, as any war does when it's been going for seventy-odd years!
How do you make war against a refugee camp?"
Operation Viking is not much different to Operation Desert Storm 2.
