Tradition in India maintains that the gods sent man the Hemp
plant so that he might attain delight, courage, and have heightened
sexual desires. When nectar or Amrita dropped down from heaven,
Cannabis sprouted from it. Another story tells how, when the
gods, helped by demons, churned the milk ocean to obtain Amrita,
one of the resulting nectars was Cannabis. It was consecrated
to Shiva and was [the goddess] Indra’s favourite drink.
After the churning of the ocean, demons attempted to gain control
of Amrita, but the gods were able to prevent this seizure, giving
Cannabis the name Vijaya (“victory”) to commemorate
their success. Ever since, this plant of the gods has been held
in India to bestow supernatural powers on its users.

The revived Church of the Holy Smoke
is now ten years old and converts to the new and ancient religion
are breaking down the Hemp Embassy doors to sign their name
in the book of true believers. The old religion that sank beneath
the waves with the demise of Atlantis 6000 years ago is once
again on the rise and growing faster than Christianity and capitalism
combined. A natural love of pot as well as a lack of relevant
alternatives and a feeling of disgust in our political and religious
leaders is driving this phenomenal growth.
As all those who attend Mardi Grass know cannabis is the solution
and not the problem, as the straightoes would have us believe.
A head full of pot will not only help a heroin or ice addict
with their withdrawals, it will also help our stupid politicians
with their Iraq withdrawals. In fact if someone had got Howard
stoned at the appropriate moment we would never have got ourselves
involved in the stinking mess in the first place.
But never mind politics; let’s get back to the religious
experience, back to the Mardi Grass and the Church of the Holy
Smoke. The MG is a protest rally but also a lot of fun, which
is only natural when you consider the reason for the rally,
pot. Participate in the Olympix and joint rolling competition,
dance yourself senseless to some of the finest stoned music
on the planet and sample some of the holy herb that will no
doubt find you if you can’t find it. Avoid the cops, they're
party poopers, and try not to share your pot with them as they
will guts it all up for themselves and fine you for the privilege.
Come into the Embassy and become a true believer and when you
go home take the message back to your family and friends; pot
is good, being stoned is natural and making a plant illegal
is as dumb as a Liberal voter.
Finally, before you get too whacked to concentrate, this is
a census year and on your census form you’ll be asked
what is your religion. Even if you don’t get a chance
to enrol in the true believers book, write down your religion
as Church of the Holy Smoke or Holy Smoker and ask your friends
to do the same. Too many folk put down their religion as Jedi
knight or Rastafarian, which is a wasted vote. With enough support
from Australian citizens we will have a religious base that
the courts and pollies will have difficulty ignoring. As a Holy
Smoker not only will you get legal support from the Hemp Embassy
but also when you die you get to go to a really cool part of
heaven. Go forth and have a ball hempsters. Keep the faith.

Dear Karry,
Thanks for your endorsement of my senatorial attempt. I got
1% of the vote at a cost of Webster New Collegiate Dictionary
religion 1: (2) commitment or devotion to religious faith or
observance; 2: a personal or institutionalized system of religious
attitudes, beliefs, or practices; 4: a cause, principle or system
of beliefs held to with ardor or faith.
For about 20 years I have devoted much of my mental and spiritual
efforts to developing an understanding that provides me and
others with a scientific foundation for what I see as the common
denominator underlying apparently diverse religious beliefs.
The principles of nonequilibrium thermodynamics provides the
framework for this effort. This branch of physics deals with
the flow of energy in open systems (the biosphere and all life
forms) and has been pioneered by Ilyia Prigogine who received
the Nobel Prize in chemistry for this work in 1977. Unlike equilibrium
thermodynamics (classical) which cannot account for life other
than by a miracle, this new branch can be viewed as mandating
it. Evolution of complex systems, inclusive of creativity, are
intrinsic to my interpretation of nonequibirium thermodynamics
as being the prime manifestation of the will of God. From this
perspective I would interpret man being made "in the image
of God" as meaning that we must embrace God's fundamental
characteristic of creativity, which includes cooperatively and
evolution.This principle is most elegantly displayed in the
evolution of the human brain and the political and social systems
that have co-developed with it. Scientifically, it has been
demonstrated that the number of THC (active ingredient in marihuana)
receptors increases as one looks higher up the evolutionary
ladder, and furthermore, these receptors are found in highest
numbers in those portions of the brain associated with human
intelligence. Therefore I conclude, both logically and religiously
from personal revelation, that the stimulation of these receptors
is involved in thought processes that are representative of
the will of God, i.e. the creative process. Personal exploration
of my receptors, in particular by altering their activity levels
through the intelligent religious use of natural plant products,
is mandated by everything that I know scientifically, and believe
religiously. Thermodynamically speaking, for a stable steady
state to evolve to a new regime, the fluctuations around the
average of the variables of the system must expand and in fact
mathematically approach infinity prior to a nonlinear rearrangement
that will lead to a new stable steady state. I believe that
this process will manifest itself socially and politically as
"heaven on earth". Individually this rearrangement
will be seen as a jump in man's average lifetime and average
level of health and intelligence. Practically speaking this
new age should be characterized by peace, harmony and love,
all of which are characteristics that are required for the next
level of social, individual and molecular cooperativity. I hope
your organization can help me defend my constitutional rights
against mindless authoritarianism.

I interpret the Bible story where Moses has a vision in which
God speaks to him from the Burning Bush as an occasion on which
he was using the most Holy & Mystical herb Marijuana (the
tree of life).
I find that if it is acceptable for Christians to take Jesus turning
water into wine literally(a sin in the eye`s of some),then they
(the Christians)should have no problem with the interpretation
of
Marijuana as the herb of the tree of life.

Cantheism
Cannabists Cantheist Creed: I believe that Cannabis sativa, L.
is the useful cane and the true hemp. I believe that Cannabis
Hemp is a restorative natural resource for all humanity to grow,
share, and use for our fundamental needs. Therefore, I shall honor
its existence. I believe that the Cannabis plant is endowed with
important healing powers, some of which cannot yet be explained.
Therefore I shall offer it to ease the suffering of others. I
recognise cannabis as a sacrament within my community. Therefore
I shall receive it with thanksgiving and deep respect for its
resinous powers. The cultivation and disemination of cannabis
are honorable professions. Therefore I shall act with absolute
integrity and honesty to protect the Cantheist community and its
values.
